Sabien
With her acoustic guitar in hand, singer-songwriter Sabien from Apeldoorn writes catchy, sing-along Dutch pop songs that feel just as at home blasting through car speakers as they do on stage. Drawing from her own life experiences, following your heart, chasing dreams, and finding love, the 28-year-old artist reveals a sincere yet powerful side of herself, aiming to leave listeners with a sense of optimism and hope.
After graduating from the Conservatory of Utrecht, Sabien achieved several personal milestones with her English-language songs. She was awarded the Radio Gelderland Podium Plaat three times and performed as a support act for singer-songwriter Douwe Bob. Despite these successes, she felt a strong need to change direction. From that moment on, Sabien decided to fully commit to writing in Dutch, the language in which her voice and message resonate most authentically.
A decision that quickly proved its value. Her first Dutch single “Dit laat ik nooit meer gaan” was immediately picked up by NPO Sterren NL, and her second single “Liever nu dan ooit” soon followed onto the same playlist. In “Dit laat ik nooit meer gaan”, Sabien, often modest by nature, powerfully expresses her determination to set aside doubts and fears in order to embrace new opportunities.
“Following my heart can be difficult because of all the opinions around me and the critical voices in my head,” she explains. “Sometimes I listen back to my own songs just to remind myself: go for it, it doesn’t matter what others think.”
Sabien draws inspiration from the sound of Americana/pop artists such as Kelsea Ballerini and Sabrina Carpenter. Catchy hooks, vivid storytelling, layered harmonies, and a strong band sound are all elements she brings into her own music. Combined with Dutch pop, her sound is often compared to artists like Hannah Mae and Miss Montreal.
In 2025, Sabien once again performed as a support act for Douwe Bob, as well as artists including Jaap Reesema, Chef’Special, MEAU, and Racoon, during a series of 13 intimate “kampvuurconcerten,” where she presented new Dutch-language material.
In 2025, Sabien signed with MAIN Music. Together, they are now working intensively on new repertoire and the continued development of her career. With new music on the way and a clear artistic direction, Sabien stands at the beginning of an exciting and promising new chapter.
